The Bloatby *Hippopottermiss

Artisan Crafts / Ceramics, Pottery & Clay / Ornaments & Objects

The Bloat is a pod of eleven hippos that I made to raise money for the protection of wild hippos on the congolese side of Lake Edward in Africa. I took it with me to Chicago, carefully packed in my hand baggage, where I was invited to attend the annual Hippolotofus reunion. Hippolotofus is an international group of hippo lovers and hippo collectors.

I did a demonstration of hippo modelling for the reunion attendees and a very enthusiastic audience watched me making “Wrigley and The Bean” [link]
The Bloat was destined for the charity raffle which also included hippos made by other members of the group. Wrigley and The Bean was auctioned on the evening it was made and was bought for 600$. Between the auction and the raffle we raised 1800$ for wild hippo protection

They need all the help they can get. I did a bit more selling for them last year too. No doubt another bit will go their way this year as well. I don't have money but I can give them a piece of my art
