A pillar of Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire, UK

The ruined abbey on top of the cliffs has been weathered by the salt winds creating beautiful pattrns in the sandstone.

The stone walls surrounding the graveyard have some lovely weathered stones too.

Of course they are - nature just IS. Obviously I picked the most awesome patterns, which, coupled with the man made curves of the stone pillars just improves it.

I thought at first it was heiroglyphics or pictograms depicting how to tell time! What a surprise to see it's all patterns by erosion. The different colours of the stone is lovely. And you're right;it's probably more breathtaking in person.
