 Thank you for putting them in amongst such a beautiful riot of colour :)
I'm fine, and happier than I've been in a long time :D - just extremely busy & haven't had time to do more than read messages on DA. I've got lots of things to upload, people to feature, journal to update, messages to answer, devwatch to go through etc. I should get a bit more time soon

Strange ... I keep hearing "Dance of the Hours" in my head ... :giggle:

Did you make the balls out of ceramic, or are they stone, or what? The two on the outside are BEAUTIFUL.

Yes the balls are made of clay too. I made the balls first then while they were still damp modelled the hippos onto them. The two end ones are decorated by a different technique to the two middle ones. Thank you for liking them

Okay, so TELL ME HOW YOU DID THE TWO ONE THE ENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It looks like such a beautiful technique!

I glazed the ball with a glaze that crazes on that clay. When it had crazed a bit I dipped it in another glaze that then picks out all the little cracks. During the firing the two mingle a bit. The hippo has to be waxed to protect it while the ball is glazed and vice-versa.

Obviously, I have GOT to get back to playing with earth clay, and not just polymer clay!!!! :D

You can get much better finishes than with painting polymer clay.

Actually, I never paint my polymer clay (well, almost never) because it comes in so many cool colors and stuff. And if you are very good about sanding and smoothing it, you can get a pretty good shine on it.

But I would really like to see if I could come up with a way to capture the lovely surfaces on those ceramic hippo balls. Wish me luck! :D

That's a really cool idea, I like the closest one, the Hippo is in a cool pose, and the ball it's on has a nice, natural pattern to it too 8-)

Oh! Well, I meant to say "the balls" But I was talking mainly about the crackled one in the back, and the neat curvy crackled one in the front!

Yep, like my raku pots that consistently end up looking like vomit...but then again, raku's especially bad.
